“We could call him Hairball. Harry for short.”

“Oh John, seriously,” she says, giving him that look.

“Hey, if we can’t joke about our own kid, who can we joke about?”

“What about Lupus?”

“Doesn’t that sound a bit too, I don’t know, mythological?”

She smiles. “I think it sounds real. Like him. A real boy.”

John shrugs. “He is what he is.”

“Exactly. And what he is, is our son. Our boy. Our darling, hairy little boy.”

“Do you think he’ll stay that hairy? I mean, some babies are born with a full head of hair, and then they lose it.”

“He won’t lose it completely, but it probably will go away for a while after the full moon.”
